Mind's Eye Productions works with government agencies and non-profit organizations to create videos for refugee orientation, service provider training, and public awareness.  Our mission is to help organizations advance the goals of self-sufficiency, socioeconomic progress, good access to services, and successful integration of refugees into our communities.

Recent projects:

The Denver Public Schools Refugee Family Engagement Project DVD Set includes:

School Orientation for Newcomer Families with English, French, Arabic, Somali, Burmese, Karen, and Nepali language versions, with English subtitles 

The school orientation video invites refugee families to become part of the school community, and informs them about American school culture.  Topics include attendance policies, behavior policies, health policies, after-school programs, parent-teacher conferences, and adult education opportunities.  Refugee parents and students are shown engaging in enjoyable school activities. School staff encourage newcomers to make use of services available to refugee students and families, both at the schools and in the greater community. 

Professional Development for School Staff provides helpful background information on the US refugee resettlement program and its implementation in local communities.  The video raises awareness of the barriers refugee students and their families face in adjusting to the new school environment.  School staff discuss and demonstrate their best practices for engaging refugee families in school life. They offer communication strategies for providing refugee parents and guardians with information about the school schedule, health issues, behavioral issues, and other important topics.  Refugees share their satisfaction in learning about school programs and resources and participating in school life.  

 

How to use the Health Care System in Colorado DVD set
Includes English, French, Burmese, Karen, Nepali, Somali, Swahili, and Kirundi versions, with English subtitles.

This video teaches newcomer refugees how to properly access medical care and take care of their health. It demonstrates the importance of keeping appointments, keeping health coverage up-to-date, properly accessing emergency care, filling and using prescriptions and over-the-counter medication, and other important topics.

Screened at the White House. A short version of our video, Iskashitaa:  An Invitation to Community won honorable mention in the White House 2008 Portraits of Compassion video contest and screened at two White House events.
