This video explores the refugee condition as a product of bullying on a global scale.  Refugee children have experienced persecution in all its forms-causing them to lose their heritage, culture, and sense of security.  When they enter the American school system, they are often bullied or excluded based on their lack of English or cultural differences.  Creating a Refuge from Bullying features Amjaad and Il Gude, an Iraqi boy and Somali Bantu girl, who describe their experiences with American peers as they try to assimilate into the American school system and culture.

Creating a Refuge from Bullying also helps identify and address bullying on a more general level as a problem that every student can help solve, whether they are victims, bystanders, or bullies themselves.

Iskashitaa: An Invitation to Community presents Barbara Eiswerth's model program that helps Arizona's new Somali Bantu community create a sustainable future for themselves and their families--a future that builds on the skills they bring from their African homeland. The program began with a harvesting project whereby the refugees can harvest excess fruit from local properties to feed their families, sell at farmer's markets and donate to food banks. It has since grown to include a variety of educational, advocacy, and intercultural programs.  Iskashitaa: An Invitation to Community shows how small community efforts can make a big difference in the quality of life for newly-resettled refugees. It screened to an audience of over 400 at Tucson's Loft Cinema on January 31, 2007.
